In the days leading up to Easter, we are going to go on this pilgrimage together with Christ as a way of identifying with him in our hearts and minds, so that we may embody his life in ours. We will break up the 14 stations that comprise the Way of the Cross as follows:
Thursday:
- Jesus on the Mount of Olives (Luke 22:39-46)
- Jesus betrayed by Judas, is arrested (Luke 22:47-48)
- Jesus is condemned by the Sanhedrin (Luke 22:66-71)
- Peter denies Jesus (Luke 22:54-62)
- Jesus is judged by Pilate (Luke 23:13-25)
Friday:
- Jesus is scourged and crowned with thorns (Luke 22:63-65; John 19:2-3)
- Jesus takes up his cross (Mark 15:20; rf. 8:34-38)
- Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus to carry his cross (Luke 23:26)
- Jesus meets the women of Jerusalem (Luke 23:27-31)
Saturday:
- Jesus is crucified (Luke 23:33, 47)
- Jesus promises the kingdom to the good thief (Luke 23:33-34, 39-43)
- Jesus on the cross, his mother and his disciple (John 19:25-27)
- Jesus dies on the cross (Luke 23:44-46)
- Jesus is placed in the tomb (Luke 23:50-54)
At each station, we will simply provide the Scripture passage, an image of the station to aid in meditation, some reflections of our own, and possible a prayer. Join us by responding to our posts with your own reflections and prayers.
Today, take a few minutes to watch the video below as an introduction to The Way of the Cross. The art work is that of Michael O'Brian, which will be used throughout our pilgrimage to aid in our meditations and prayers. As you're reflecting on the story of Christ's last hours in these images, consider your own participation in the death of Christ. How have you betrayed Jesus? How are you entering into the sufferings of Christ? What in your life needs to die? How can you take up your cross and follow Jesus more closely today?
